Application.application.stage
Just a quick post for anyone attempting to do this …
Application.application.stage is not available when creationComplete is dispatched, but it is available by the time applicationComplete is dispatched.
In my case I simply wanted to listen for a KeyboardEvent in a quick test-app, but it’s also handy if you want to create a fullscreen Flex application ( thanks Peter for your invaluable blog :] )
Flash On The Beach 08 – Fantastic :)
Wow, John Davey really knows how to put together a fantastic conference. FOTB is now in its third year and once again it sold out early.
This was the second time I had attended FOTB and my first time as a speaker, so it was interesting to see how things had changed since 2006. The conference tends to be a little less technical than some, therefore I was pleased to find a few more technical sessions in this years line up. I was also glad to see that it had not gone too far the other way – FOTB is a conference to inspire and it would be a shame to see that change.
John really does take very good care of his speakers, and it’s apparent from the many tweaks that had taken place that he listens carefully to the feedback from attendees, so it’s not hard to understand why there is such a friendly buzz about the place.
FOTB has become particularly well known for its “Inspire Sessions” which take place in the evening, before the parties and with free beer provided by the sponsors. I can’t recall attending any during my 2006 visit … what a mistake! I came back from this year’s event, refreshed and energised. It was just what I needed after a small run of bad luck in the weeks leading up to it.
I won’t go in to a detailed break-down of each session I went to (I see many others have blogged about them) but I saw some fantastic talks by Mario Klingemann, Koen Weggheliere, Lee Brimelow, Tink, Grant Skinner, Branden Hall, Marco Cassario, Peter Elst and James Patterson.
I had to change my original session slot and was gutted to find out that my new slot clashed with both Andre Michelle and Doug McCune! – Ah these things happen … I’ll get to see you guys talk one day!
It was the last time for my “Cairngorm for Beginners” talk too. I found myself unexpectedly nervous for the first five minutes (no idea why!), but apparently no one noticed the nerves and I’d like to thank everyone who took the time to thank me afterwards … especially those who approached me with the job offers! My first interview is next week :)
As always, if you have any feedback about my session (good or bad) I’d love to hear it – you can contact me off-blog (my email is on the “About” page of this blog)
Finally, There was the big announcement of FOTB coming to Miama in April 09. If you want to attend you better book early. I’m sure it will be another popular event.
Thanks to John and his wife for looking after us so well and for putting on such a top-class event. I wish you all the best with FOTBM!
