360|Flex Milan Feedback!
I’ve seen a couple of write-ups about 360 Milan appearing on blogs already. So far the feedback on my session has been really good, but I’m looking for more … as much as possible … both good and bad ( although don’t just make up bad stuff for the sake of it okay ).
Every speaker needs constructive feedback – it’s useful to find out what the attendees thought of your session. What worked and didn’t work? Next time should I show more code or less code, speak slower or faster, forget the humour or add more? Maybe next time I should try doing the talk with my clothes on.
So if you did attend and can spare a moment, let me know what you thought. I can use the good feedback to convince other conferences to let me speak, while sweeping any bad feedback under the carpet, and dismissing it as coming from people with a chemical imbalance and complete lack of taste ;)
It is weird how you can give exactly the same talk in two places, and get completely different reactions though. In Milan I wasn’t initially sure if my talked had bombed or not … and if so, which part , the humour or the delivery of information? At times when I expected a laugh I was met with silence … and a few smiles which could have just been sympathy smiles! Yet in the remaining day or so, several people did come up to me to say they thought my session was funny and informative so that was okay – as for the rest, the said nothing so I still don’t know what they thought!
Anyway, please feel free to leave your feedback in the comments section, or email me directly if you would prefer (and let me know if I can publish what you write).
Meanwhile, here are a few of my favourites:
“Both didactic and full of humor … This was an intro talk that managed to make sure everyone can understand how Cairngorm can be useful to your Flex application in a absolutely non-boring way. A must-see if you still do not know/use Cairngorm or if you are looking at hints on how to explain Cairngorm to your colleagues ;)” – Christophe Jolif (ILOG)
“If I felt bad about my troubles, such feelings quickly vanished while enjoying Neil Webb’s Cairngorm presentation. Neil had no technical difficulties. As a matter of fact his presentation was quite brilliant, and very very funny, only, it seemed I was the only one laughing at his jokes
Truly, I’ve never seen such good humor fall on deaf ears… cultural differences I suppose
“ – Sakri Rosenstrom
He has some VERY funny slides and if you’re going to scotch on the rocks and/or 360 Flex San Jose definitely check out his session. Even if you know Cairngorm go see it for the Phat controller, Sexed up Flex Frameworks and Sexyometer! If you aren’t familiar with Cairngorm then Neil breaks it down into a very digestible manner and uses great metaphors to explain what’s going on. – Dan Thomas (Moov2)

Well, I missed your presentation, but after I heard couple of feedbacks I was sorry… :(
For conference organizers:
“Neil is a smart and funny guy. During and after the presentation. And he can do things in Photoshop too. It’s worth to have him at your event. Definitely!” :)
Cheers,
hope to c u around again.
Tomislav

Heh, yes it’s amazing what nice things people will say when you leave your credit-card behind the bar :]
Shame on you, what could possibly have been more pressing? Don’t give me that “I am the last starfighter, I was off saving the galaxy” line again because I won’t believe you.

Neil Webb’s session succeeded on a bold goal; to deliver the complex topic of the Cairngorm framework using simple language and a sense of humour. This session encourages those interested to take a deeper dive into this hot topic.
Any chance that the presentation will be made available?
hi trev did you attend also?
